Correct design is not just a question of efficiency, but of \u003Cstrong>workplace safety and legal obligation\u003C\u002Fstrong>.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\u003Ch2>Understanding the three decisive load types\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\n\u003Ch3>Shelf load, what a single level may carry\u003C\u002Fh3>\n\u003Cp>The \u003Cstrong>shelf load\u003C\u002Fstrong> indicates the maximum permissible load of a single rack level with an evenly distributed load. For pallet racking it is typically between \u003Cstrong>1,000 and 3,000 kg per level\u003C\u002Fstrong>. The resulting point load can reach \u003Cstrong>7 to 8 tonnes per upright foot\u003C\u002Fstrong>, an enormous strain on the warehouse floor.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\u003Ch2>Floor loading: the warehouse floor as the limiting factor\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\u003Cp>Modern logistics buildings are designed for at least \u003Cstrong>5 t\u002Fm² (50 kN\u002Fm²)\u003C\u002Fstrong>. Older halls or converted buildings often fail to reach this value. Typical floor slab thicknesses are \u003Cstrong>16 to 30 cm\u003C\u002Fstrong>, depending on the load.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Before installing heavy-duty racking, the \u003Cstrong>load-bearing capacity of the floor must be checked\u003C\u002Fstrong>, ideally using the building documentation or by a structural engineer. \u003Cstrong>Load distribution plates\u003C\u002Fstrong> under the rack feet can reduce point loads, but they are no substitute for a proper structural assessment.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\u003Ch2>Standards and regulations, what currently applies\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\n\u003Ch3>DIN EN 15512, structural design\u003C\u002Fh3>\n\u003Cp>The revised \u003Cstrong>DIN EN 15512:2020\u003C\u002Fstrong> is regarded as the \"state of the art\" for the structural design of adjustable pallet racking.
