Leaning, Multi-Purpose and Push-Up Ladders for Every Task
Leaning, multi-purpose and push-up ladders are the backbone of access equipment in daily operations. Whether it is a quick move between two levels, flexible use at changing locations, or reaching greater heights, this group covers most jobs. It belongs to Ladders & Access Technology, alongside the mobile scaffolds & rolling towers for work needing a fixed standing area and the platform ladders for elevated access with a railing.
What are these ladders used for?
- reaching racking, mezzanines and roofs
- maintenance, cleaning and inspection on facades, machinery and vehicles
- flexible use at changing locations in the warehouse or on site
- refuelling and inspection work on tanker vehicles and containers
- short tasks at height that do not need a fixed platform
The right type depends on the task. For a quick move between two levels, a simple leaning ladder is usually enough. If the task and location change often, a multi-purpose ladder with several configurations is more practical. For very large heights, such as tall facades or warehouse racking, a push-up ladder with rope pulley is the better choice.
Types at a glance
The group splits into six types, each with its own focus.
If you need a fixed access with a larger standing area instead, take a look at the steps, platforms & work platforms.
Material: aluminium or GRP
Most models in this group come in two materials, marked by an abbreviation in the product name.
- LM (light metal / aluminium): low weight, easy to transport, the most common choice in warehouses and workshops.
- GRP (glass fibre reinforced plastic): electrically non-conductive, suited to work near power lines or overhead cables.
For daily use in a warehouse or workshop, an aluminium ladder is usually enough. If you regularly work near electrical installations, a GRP ladder such as the EFA series is the safer choice, since it does not conduct electricity.
Rungs, steps and ladder length
Leaning and multi-purpose ladders come with rungs or with wider steps. Rungs are light and compact, steps offer more standing area and more comfort during longer use.
- rung version: light, compact, for short jobs
- step version: wider tread, more comfortable for frequent use
- the number of rungs or steps depends on the required working height
- push-up ladders extend continuously via rope pulley to the right length
- multi-purpose ladders change their usable height and shape through reconfiguration
Allow some margin when choosing a length. The top rungs or steps of a ladder are not meant for standing, so the usable working height is lower than the total length.
Useful additions
Matching accessories are worth planning alongside the ladder itself. Spare and add-on parts such as outer feet, inner feet and rung caps are listed together under ladder accessories. Work at height often also calls for personal protective equipment, for example when additional fall protection is required. Further accessories and spare parts are listed under accessories & spare parts.
Safety and inspection
Leaning, multi-purpose and push-up ladders follow the DIN EN 131 series, which covers stability, rung spacing and marking, among other things. DGUV Information 208-016 describes safe use of ladders in daily operations, including maximum standing height. Regardless of the model, ladders used commercially must be inspected regularly by a competent person under German regulations (BetrSichV), at least once a year. An inspection sticker fixed to the ladder records the result and the next due date.
Advantages at a glance
