The modern industrial workstation
A well-equipped workstation is not a luxury – it is an investment in productivity, quality and employee health. The combination of workbench and drawer cabinet forms the backbone of every professional workshop. But how do you plan it optimally?
Choosing the right workbench
Three factors are decisive when selecting an industrial workbench:
Load capacity
Standard workbenches carry 300–500 kg evenly distributed. For heavy assembly work or machine use, you need heavy-duty workbenches with a load capacity of up to 1,500 kg.
Worktop
- Solid beech – Robust, warm, ideal for mechanical workshops
- Multiplex – Dimensionally stable, moisture-resistant, versatile
- Sheet steel – For welding stations and heavy metalworking
Working height
The optimal working height is 850–950 mm for standing work. Height-adjustable workbenches offer maximum flexibility when different employees use the workstation.
Drawer cabinets as an organisation system
LISTA drawer cabinets bring order to any workshop. The advantages:
- Over 1,000 configurations – From 18E to 78E width, 27E to 36E depth
- Stationary or mobile – Fixed at the workstation or on castors between stations
- Flexible partitioning – Dividers and trays for tools, small parts and precision components
- Full extension – Every drawer can be pulled out completely for overview and access
Three practical layouts
Layout 1: Individual mechanics workstation
One workbench (1500 mm) with a beech top, a drawer cabinet (27E) for hand tools on the left, above it a superstructure with perforated panel and lighting. Compact, clearly arranged, everything within reach.
Layout 2: Assembly workshop island
Four workbenches arranged in a square, with a mobile drawer cabinet in the middle as a shared tool store. Ideal for teamwork on larger assemblies.
Layout 3: Production assembly line
Workbenches in a row (2000 mm), each with an integrated drawer unit (36E). Superstructures with power supply and compressed air. Workpieces move from station to station.
Ergonomics at the workstation
The DGUV Information 215-410 (guideline of the German statutory accident insurance) defines requirements for screen-based and industrial workstations. Key points:
- Reach zone – Frequently used tools within a radius of 40 cm
- Legroom – At least 60 cm under the workbench
- Lighting – At least 500 lux at the workstation, glare-free
Conclusion
The combination of LISTA workbenches and drawer cabinets creates workstations that are productive, ergonomic and expandable. Plan around the workflow – not the catalogue. That way you will find the right configuration for your production.
